With so many great upcoming titles this April, gamers are going to be hard-pressed for time and funds. I know I am. This month seems especially good for Switch players, as many classics are finally making their way to the Nintendo store. Fans of Lego, sports and Kaiju all have something to look forward to here. Whittling down this list to just the 5 essential games was no easy task, with such a range of great releases to choose from. Ultimately though, we believe these 5 upcoming April titles will be a solid addition to your game libraries.

5. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

Releasing: Switch – April 12th

Developed by VanillaWare and released for Playstation in 2020, this is the first of a number of releases finally coming to Switch. Schedules for April 12th, Aegis Rim has you following the engrossing story of thirteen high school students. Set in 1980s Japan amidst a war between Mecha and Kaiju, you will be following the lives of each character individually. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the unique visuals and solid world-building will quickly draw you in. The gameplay is divided between side-scrolling adventure and RTS battles, in a non-linear narrative.

Fans of the manga-like visuals, classic Kaiju setting and well-written characters will have plenty to enjoy here.

4. Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Releasing: Switch – April 26th

A spin-off from the well known Sniper Elite series, Dead War is the follow-on from the Zombie Army Trilogy. Developed by Rebellion, this third-person shooter will once again have you battling it out against hordes of the once-living. Originally released for consoles and PC in 2020, it is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch on April 26th. With a suite of your favourite zombie fighting weapons, you will once again be thrown into a strange post-World War II world in a fight to survive. Don't forget to aim for the head!

The reviews for the console releases have been positive, with the solid gameplay and fun co-op modes receiving praise. Any fan of the World War setting and zombie slaying will surely welcome this great new addition to the Switch.

3. Star-Wars: Force Unleashed For Switch

Releasing: Switch – April 20th

Amongst the most notable games in a line of Star Wars titles. The Force Unleashed is getting a remastered release for Nintendo Switch, bringing you the devastating powers of Starkiller once more. The title is by no means new, having released originally in 2008 on consoles, it was one of the best sellers at the time. With around one million copies sold in the first month alone. This remaster will have you playing with the awesome powers of the force, throwing your lightsabers and tossing Stormtroopers around like it's nothing.

For those who may have missed the title, it is set somewhere between the events of Revenge of the Sith and New Hope. An epic Star Wars story full of twists and incredibly memorable moments. It remains a strong addition to the franchise and is worth picking up for fans and newcomers alike.

2. MLB The Show 22

Releasing: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch – April 5th

Produced by San Diego Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, this well-known Baseball Franchise is getting its seventeenth title. MLB The Show 22 is scheduled to release on April 5th, across all major platforms and for the first time the Nintendo Switch. Fans of the series can look forward to the title being more accessible. Despite some early concerns surrounding switch performance from a tech test. The brand strategist for MLB The Show clarified that the upcoming release is targeting 30 fps and will “maintain a solid framerate” unlike the test. Notably being an Xbox Game Pass subscriber will net you the game at no cost, and will have you swinging in no time.

1. Lego Star-Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Releasing: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch – April 5th

It is incredibly hard to go wrong with any Lego-universe purchase. From Lego Harry Potter to Lego Indiana Jones, there are a suite of memorable and funny moments to carry with you. This is bound to be no exception. Set to release this April 5th, The Skywalker Saga is to be the sixth title in the Lego Star-Wars series. And it will release on almost every platform. You don't need to be a Lego fan to enjoy these games either, the popular franchise crossovers bring a fun-hearted spin to well known and loved universes.

The storyline of this upcoming release is set to follow Skywalker through all of the Star Wars films, the fall of the Jedi and the rise of Vader. And with over three hundred playable characters at that, it's looking to be a true Star Wars lego adventure.
