Disney Games

Disney's fanbase is expanding. The House of Mouse company debuted its first computer game Mickey’s Space Adventure, in 1984. Fans got to experience their favorite characters in simulated action. Soon later, the classic series Ducktales and Heart Kingdom launched on video game platforms. A modest step into the gaming industry has seen the industry launching other beloved titles such as Disney Infinity and Toy Story 2, which earned high Metacritic ratings.

During the D23 Expo, where Disney hosted its first convention since 2019, the entertainment company announced new gaming and movie titles set for release in 2023. If you missed the stream, here are five Disney games coming out in 2023.

5. Tron: Identity

Tron Identity - Reveal Teaser Trailer | D23 Expo 2022

A surprising collaboration between Disney and Bithell Games will immerse gamers in a detective simulation. Torn: Identity follows Query, a detective program on a mission to solve a crime in the Grid. While Disney did not reveal much during the trailer showcase, the game will feature a new storyline. However, you won’t be seeing your favorite movie characters in the game’s roster.

The  John Wick Hex developer, Bithell Games, describes the game as having a “hybrid” gameplay since it will also feature a visual novel style. Furthermore, the game will feature puzzles and traditional adventure games. The game will delve deeper into the expansive Tron universe with plenty of microcosms.

The main storyline, however, surrounds Kevin Flynn and his son, Sam Flynn. Kevin is unfortunately stuck in a server, and Sam has to rescue him. During this turn of events, the inhabitants of the server experience an unprecedented crime. Players will use Identity disks to uncover clues as they enter a new Grid. The game gives you options for forging alliances and making critical decisions that map out your course.

4. Disney Illusion Land

Disney Illusion Island - World Premiere Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Mickey Mouse and his team will embark on an adventure in the soon-to-be-released Disney game Disney Illusion Land.  The new 2D platformer is exclusive to Nintendo Switch and will star Mickey and his friends in an exciting co-op adventure playable with three more friends.

The adventure game sets Mickey and friends on a quest to recover three magical books that would save the world. Illusion Land lets other characters share the spotlight by giving them special jumping or swimming abilities. Despite these, the game emphasizes the players working as a team.

The game brings art and color by still featuring fun and tomfoolery that makes the animated show ever so popular. As a tribute to the classic Disney games, Illusion Land will give you nostalgia for the golden days.

3. Marvel World of Heroes

MARVEL World of Heroes | Reveal Trailer

Disney teams up with the augmented reality franchise and Pokemon Go developer Niantic Labs for a thrilling adventure in the Marvel Universe. The 2023 Disney game lets fans play as their own superheroes in the real world.  Fly into the land of superheroes and battle as some of the mighty titles, including Wolverine, Captain America, and Spider-Man. The smartphone game lets you pair up with friends against interdimensional threats and Marvel supervillains.

Players can take on neighborhood threats as their iconic marvel superhero and level up to access new equipment and skills. Furthermore, the game allows you to customize your identity and use various superpowers based on Marvel superheroes such as Thor, Doctor Strange, and Cyclops.

The pre-release trailer doesn’t dish out much detail; it, however, explicitly states the release of the title in 2023. Fans of the Marvel universe can pre-register for the game on the Marvel Word of Heroes website. Furthermore, you can keep up with the updates on the game’s social links.

2. Gargoyles Remastered

Gargoyles Remastered | Announcement D23 Expo 2022

Teaming up with Empty Clip Studios, Disney is giving a revamp to the classic 90s platformer, Gargoyles. Although Gargoyles did not receive many audiences leading to its cancellation after three seasons, the popular Sega Genesis game is still alive in comic books amassing a huge fan base.

The 1995 game was based on its animation of the same tite and received praise for its witty writing and well-mastered villains. The side-scrolling platformer maintains the main character, Goliath, as the lead Gargoyle on a quest to end the reign of Eye of Odin. At the end of the levels, players would fight a boss, where, upon victory, the player protects New York City from supernatural creatures. Although the game only featured five levels, Gargoyles remains a beloved classic.

Empty Clip will remaster the 2D cult series, which features the gargoyle scaling a hellish underground cave to destroy an artifact of power and fighting off Viking enemies. Fans should expect an update on controls, visuals, and more for this classic remake.
