Best Xbox One Games of All Time

If you're not familiar with Metacritic, it's a website that compiles reviews from across the internet, including notable publications, individual reviews, and their own, to generate a Metacritic score. It's a rather ingenious idea that formulates all reviews across the web and derives an overall rating for the game with them. As a result, a game with a high Metacritic rating is likely to be a fantastic title. And today we present the top five Xbox One games of all time, according to Metacritic.

That's why if you're an Xbox One gamer who hasn't considered these titles, you might be more interested now knowing they're the best of the best for the console. There is also a wide range of genres to choose from, each focusing on a different theme and bringing a unique story; all of which have achieved tremendous success as a result. Evidently, that explains why they're the best Xbox One games of all time, but we're not going to build up the hype any longer. According to Metacritic, these are the five best Xbox One games of all time.

5. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 - Official Launch Trailer

Resident Evil 2 ranks fifth on Metacritic with an 8.8 User Score and a Metascore of 93. This game is a 2019 remake of the original Resident Evil 2 release from 1998, with an entirely reworked narrative and a more modern engine, CapCom's RE Engine. The story follows rookie police officer Leon S Kenney and college student Claire Redfield as they try to survive and escape the horrors of the zombie outbreak.

What makes this entry unique is that players can explore separate playable campaigns for both characters. Putting you in the shoes of both characters and allowing you to see each of their perspectives. However, completing both characters' stories unlocks Resident Evil 2's true ending. That's why, if you're looking to immerse yourself in an engaging thriller, Resident Evil 2 is unquestionably the best up for grabs on Xbox One. Multiple stories, contrasting and paralleled perspectives, and a tonne of horror action gameplay.

4. Celeste

You may or may not like 2D platformers with pixel graphics, but Celeste is one of the genres best that you can't go without playing. Not only is it one of the best Xbox One games of all time, but it's also regarded as one of the best side-scrolling platformers of all time. And it's up against notable classics like Mario and Sonic. Currently, Celeste is ranked fourth among all Xbox One games, with a User Score of 7.6 and a Metascore of 94.

In this platformer, you take on the role of Madeline, who must reach the summit of Celeste Mountain. However, she is learning to fight her inner demons both metaphorically and literally along the way. As a result, Celeste is not only very narrative-driven, but the action gameplay has direct ties to the story as well. The game is about self-discovery and its narrative has touched the hearts of everyone who has played it. That is why, whether you enjoy 2D pixel platformers or not, Celeste is well worth your time.

3. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Debut Trailer

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the final chapter in one of the most enduring video game franchises ever. The first Metal Gear game was released in 1987 and was designed by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with Konami. With Kojima's mastermind at the helm of each installment, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is the pinnacle and conclusion to top off the incredible series. Evidently why it's the third best Xbox One game of all time according to Metacritic, with a User Score of 7.6 and a Metascore of 95.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a fantastic, well-rounded title that incorporates the best elements of each previous entry into its latest installment. They do, however, bring something new to the table, as this is the first open-world Metal Gear game. As a result, players have complete control over what missions they undertake and how they choose to complete them. Even if that means opting for stealth in a cardboard box.

These creative aspects, among many others, make this entry the most renowned in terms of gameplay. And if you're a fan of the series, you'll no doubt enjoy iconic protagonist Snakes' plotline in The Phantom Pain as well.

2. Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V Trailer

We hardly think Grand Theft Auto V requires an introduction as you've most likely heard of or come across this title by now. As Rockstar's most well-known game, and one that's closing in on nearly a decade-long stint, we're surprised the game didn't take the number one spot on Metacritic's list of the best Xbox One games of all time. However, the competition holding that spot has easily earned it, so we can't argue. Neither can Rockstar, who owns the number one spot with another of their games.

According to Metacritic, GTA V ranks second among the best Xbox One games of all time, with a User Score of 7.9 and a Metascore of 97. And, given the seemingly limitless possibilities that occur on Los Santos' streets, we're not surprised it's receiving such high ratings. Even after almost a decade, we're still discovering exciting new content to explore in GTA V. That's why it's never too late to dive into this ever-lasting title.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2: Official Trailer #3

If you want a game that is full of action gameplay and abundant in story and side quests, almost to the point of drowning in them, Red Dead Redemption 2 should keep you busy for months. This is the highly anticipated follow-up to RockStar's open-world western RPG, and it did not disappoint. According to Metacritic, it is the best Xbox One game of all time, with a User Score of 8.2 and a Metascore of 97.

We're not sure what Rockstar Games' secret is, but they have a knack for creating long-running and compelling games. From the graphics, gameplay, and narrative to the smallest of details, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece. It brings the wild wild west to life, which is often a cruel but equally mesmerizing experience. We could go on and on, but there are simply too many compelling reasons why it is the best. The only way to do it justice is to play, experience, and see it for yourself.
