Updated on

The annual day of the force, May the 4th, is right around the corner. It's the one day of the year that Star Wars fanatics get to celebrate and re-live all of the movie's greatest moments. Expectedly most of us will be binge-watching the franchise from start to end. However, after, you'll be in lightspeed for more Star Wars nostalgia. And what better way to relive that nostalgia than with the five best Star Wars games you should play this May 4th.

All these games share a strong connection with the force. Sculpting the movie's most famous characters, landscapes, scenarios, and, of course, Jedi fights into pure video game action. So with no shortage of May the 4th puns, let's jump into the five best Star ars games you should play this May 4th.

5. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

A lot of people weren't pleased with EA's delivery of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. On both sides of the coin, generally, EA gets criticized pretty hard by its player base but rightfully so, the game was riddled with bugs. On top of that, it's an original story and doesn't follow suit with any of the franchise's movies. However, the game harnesses the action-adventure of the Star Wars universe and delivers some of the most potent Jedi fights we have seen from a AAA Star Wars title.

One thing that comes from the original story in Star Wars Jedi: the Fallen Order, is the benefit of original content, with characters, environments, and planets. It's something that had us invested in the Star Wars franchise from the get-go. However, getting to play the game and meet a whole new set of characters, environments, and planets brings back memories of seeing movies for the first time.

4. Star Wars: Squadrons

There are tons of memorable and iconic Star Wars movie moments, so much so that we might just have to make its own top five. However, one scene that is engraved in our minds among all others, is the destruction of the Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope. It's a pivotal moment in the franchise and a defining moment for Luke Skywalkers' character. Well if you want to re-live that moment and the many intergalactic battles between X-wing and TIE fighters on May the 4th, then jump into Star Wars: Squadrons.

The game incorporates all the iconic starfighters that were introduced in the original movies. The cockpits are authentic replicas from the film and provide the most realistic sensation of piloting starfighters in first-person combat. The highlight is the multiplayer mode, which reenacts fleet battles between the New Republic and the Empire. It feels like a goliath battle and just as the movies portrayed it. If you truly want the best experience, watch A New Hope and then play Star Wars: Squadrons to relive the feeling of destroying a Star Destroyer for yourself.

3. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The Star Wars film franchise, like the LEGO video games, both hold a big piece of childhood memorabilia in us all. That's why merging these concepts into a witty and entertaining game like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, works so well. And with a six-year wait between editions, the 2022 installment of The Skywalker Saga was a home run.

The game was released just a month ago on April 5th. Which makes May 4th the ideal time to jump into the game if you haven't already. Especially if you want to re-live all the iconic Star Wars scenes. The game essentially riffs off notable scenes with cinematic accuracy and the inclusions of fun spin-off levels from various environments in the movie. Every level will provide just the right amount of Star Wars nostalgia that you'll be pining for on May 4th.

On top of that, being a LEGO game, all of the Star Wars characters are here but in a more comical fashion. Characters' personalities are drawn out and exploited for their cinematic stereotypes, with tons of humorous references to their backstory. If you want a fun and light-hearted way to re-experience Stars Wars' most iconic characters and most notable scenes, The Skywalker Saga is the perfect approach for May 4th.

2. Star Wars Battlefront II

Many fight sequences in Star Wars capture the spirit of the franchise's futuristic combat. A Star Wars game that reflects this action is Star Wars Battlefront II. Expect a surge of players to come back to the game on May 4th to re-live its movie-like moments.

The multiplayer maps are exact reconstructions of some of Star Wars' most legendary battlegrounds. Like Hoth, Tatooine, Yavin 4 and so many more that put you right in the middle of the action from the movie. It captures the sheer intensity of these battles, play's a lot like Battlefield. It's really a barrage of chaos, and a spectacle of a light show with lasers flying across your screen.

I can't forget the cherry on top, which is getting the chance to dominate the warzone as a Jedi. When you play as a Jedi, the game truly shows off their fighting prowess, and it's nothing short of a massacre. That's until you cross paths with another Jedi that's just begging for a legendary bout. So best be prepared and have Duel of the Fates cued for when the moment springs upon you.

1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

It's time to dust off your old consoles (Or just boot up your PC) because Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is the ultimate Star Wars game to play on May the 4th. Hopefully, it won't be long before the remake comes out and this won't be the case.

The RPG game lets you play as your own personalized Jedi through a Star Wars story that has never been unveiled on-screen. However, it is based on original comic books, roughly 4,000 years before the events of the movie. If you're having a May 4th party at your place, play KOTOR first before binge-watching all the movies to get the complete tale.

Also, let's be honest. We've all dreamed of being a Jedi or one of the fictional characters from the movies. It's something only KOTOR has really harnessed the essence of. Letting you choose from nine customizable characters, with over 40 different powers and your own personalized lightsaber. May 4th is about absorbing the force's strength, and what better game to do that with than KOTOR? All I have left to say is May the 4th be with you.
