5 Best Games on Netflix Games (October 2022)

It isn't often we associate Netflix with gaming. And yet, here we are, prepared to acknowledge the fact that the streaming giant, in spite of its predominantly movie-based content, has a multitude of fantastic games lathered over its subscription-based empire. And it makes sense, of course, to have such a rich library of quality titles, what with the company looking to expand its territory into the gaming market for 2023 and beyond.

There are, of course, a number of steps Netflix will need to take before being able to run alongside the likes of Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. But as it stands today, the up-and-coming contender is clearly off to a great start. And if you're interested in knowing what games are piquing our interest as of late, then read on.

5. Townsmen: A Kingdom Rebuilt

Townsmen - A Kingdom Rebuilt // Launch Trailer

Building a virtual city isn't exactly a revolutionary concept by any means; it's a little overused, if anything. That being said, there is a reason why countless gamers flock to them: the freedom to create without boundaries, in which games like Townsmen: A Kingdom Rebuilt are an absolute boon to the genre. And on platforms like Netflix, they shine much brighter than in other places, which doubles their value and popularity.

Townsmen: A Kingdom Rebuilt has you taking on the role of a fallen lord, whose purpose is to establish a new community in the nearby grasslands. By choosing a scenario and rolling with it, you will become the city's saviour, or the reason for its eventual downfall. Every strategy bears a consequence, and it's your duty to siphon out the right ones as you build something to call your own.

4. Stranger Things 3

Stranger Things 3: The Game - Gameplay Trailer

For anyone who's binge watched the whole of Netflix's Stranger Things and is currently suffering the post-vecna blues, there is a silver lining, which just so happens to accommodate a spot on Netflix's gaming library. With thanks to the 8-bit adaptation of the beloved show, subscribers can squeeze an additional pound of content from its third season, which comes loaded with a semi-open world and side quests to boot.

Stranger Things 3 is very much on the same wavelength as its cinematic counterpart, which means you can live out all the same events as The Party during their quest across Hawkins. There's plenty of action, dialogue, and exploration to soak up, which makes it worth checking out if you're a die-hard fan of the supernatural saga.

3. Asphalt Xtreme

Asphalt Xtreme Launch Trailer

Carbon junkies will surely get a kick out of Netflix's exclusive racing game Asphalt Xtreme, doubly so if they're also somewhat keen to spend dozens of hours galavanting around in smoke, haze, and dirt in an oversized monster truck. That's the basic premise here, and it's beyond worthy of your time, especially if you enjoy anything to do with rallying and the iconic checkered flag.

Asphalt Xtreme stems from a long line of highly successful racing games, which makes this mobile-friendly chapter a definite port of call for fans of the series. It may be compressed in terms of gameplay and customization, but it certainly makes up for it it through its ever-evolving courses, soundtrack, and licensed vehicles. Racing fan or not, it's at least worth having a look at.

2. Into the Dead 2

Into the Dead 2 by PikPok - OFFICIAL TRAILER

Zombie-infused survival horror games occupy a large portion of the market these days, and rightfully so, too. Due to their expansive and evidently desolate open worlds and in-depth crafting systems, games of its kind have been able to entertain millions of gamers on a multitude of platforms. Speaking of which, Netflix's home-brewed iteration, Into the Dead 2, is a superb contender, as well as a solid alternative to some of the bolder console clones.

Into the Dead 2 strikes a perfect balance between being a deep exploration game and an immersive story-driven one. At its core, it's an auto-run button-mashing experience, but thanks to Netflix going above and beyond to flesh it out with more meat than microtransactions, it's also pretty darn entertaining, too. And so, if you're one for roaming barren lands with nothing but your dog and an ARC-7 Legion, then don't let this one be swept under the rug.

1. Oxenfree: Netflix Edition

OXENFREE | Official Game Trailer | Netflix

Oxenfree is a story-driven drama that incorporates all the best elements of any side-scrolling title and envelopes them in a sci-fi world full of hearty dialogue and mysteries. Thanks to Netflix acquiring Night School Studios' best-selling hit, mobile gamers can finally experience all that's stored inside as part of their monthly subscription plans.

Oxenfree takes you to a seemingly vacant seaside town, a place where your friendship group make a vow to keep a dying tradition alive by hosting a beach party after hours. However, when a rift in the air causes time to pause and repeat itself, the group must band together to unravel the island's secrets and solve the mystery before the night is over. Through a series of choices and dialogue options, you will fight through thick and thin for each passing hour, using whatever skills in your arsenal to make it to dawn.
