5 Best Games Coming Out in April 2022

Updated on

Granted, when looking back at the number of great games that have come out over the last three months, it does make April and all of the upcoming releases look a little, say, inadequate. After the likes of Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, GhostWire: Tokyo, and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, it'll take some serious firepower to make so much as a dent in gamers' pockets over the next four or five weeks.

That said, there are still plenty of fantastic titles heading our way on all major platforms. Switch, for one, is about to receive a treasure trove of ports and remasters. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, with plenty of layers stapled beneath, all cooked to satisfy the needs of the vast majority of players. Or, at least serve as an appetizer between months, anyway.

5. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Of all the Lego games that have traipsed the market over the years, Star Wars remains an all-time favourite. Rightfully so, considering its brand is one of the most popular in not only cinema—but spare-opera literature. And with that, it only makes sense that Traveller's Tales would go on to squash the whole journey into one well-rounded package for all major platforms.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga includes all nine episodes across a lengthy narrative that spans multiple planets and arcs, giving you the entire galaxy to explore while swapping between hundreds of familiar faces. It's an entire division syphoned out and crammed into one jam-packed bundle. It's basically everything a Skywalker fan could want, and then some.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga comes to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC on April 5, 2022.

4. MLB The Show 22

MLB The Show secured its place atop the pillar of fan favourites way back in 2006, right when the series debuted after the success of the 989 Sports Major League Baseball series. Since then, the Sony-based faction has worked tirelessly to build on an already booming platform, using new tech to boost the performance with each passing instalment.

Well, the next leg of the journey to the beloved baseball saga is just up ahead. MLB The Show 22 is on the horizon, and it is shaping up to be the boldest and most ambitious chapter in the timeline to date. With a newly erected career mode, a fully stocked customization suite, and a plethora of online modes and couch co-op options, MLB The Show 22 will most definitely keep you busy for the next few weeks.

MLB The Show 22 comes to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch on April 5, 2022.

3. Nintendo Switch Sports

Nintendo Switch Sports - Announcement Trailer - Nintendo Switch

At long last, the universally acclaimed Wii Sports will be striking back with a brand new Switch port. After basking beneath a lamp of eternal praise for a good decade or so, Nintendo will finally look to uproot and put the celebrated package on updated hardware. And let's face it, being one of the best-selling games of all time, it does sort of make sense for Nintendo to keep its flame alight.

That said, Switch Sports won't be your cheap run-of-the-mill clone. In fact, it's more of a reimagining of the beloved Wii hit, only with updates visuals, new avatars, and a few additional sports. So, if you've been craving a good helping of Wii fitness, then be sure to check out the latest addition to the series.

Nintendo Wii Sports comes to Switch on April 29, 2022.

2. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition

CHRONO CROSS: THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION – Nintendo Direct 2.9.22 - Nintendo Switch

It may have been a good 20 years since the beloved time-hopping PlayStation JRPG graced our screens, but that hasn't stopped fans from talking about it making an eventual return. And as luck would have it, Nintendo has been around to pick up the reins and take it for a well-deserved stroll, making sure to bolt on all the bells and whistles that shaped the tale way back when.

Chrono Cross is back, and it's coming with the Radical Dreamers visual novel as an added extra. And this is sort of a big deal, considering the fact that, outside of Japan, players never had the luxury of experiencing the whole narrative. But that's soon about to change, courtesy of Square Enix revamping one of the most popular role-playing games of its time for current gen hardware.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition comes to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC on April 7, 2022.

1. The House of the Dead: Remake

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake || Nintendo Switch Trailer 2022

If you thought the light gun shoot 'em up genre was out for the count, then you were sorely mistaken. The fact is, it's still alive and kicking, courtesy of Nintendo reviving one particular best-selling game for the Switch system. The House of the Dead is back, and it's ready to find new ground in the comfort of your own two hands.

It might be slightly dated and on a much smaller platform compared to the likes of Resident Evil, but it's still a prominent marker on the zombie front. It's also a game that arcade fans have wanted remastered for a good few years now. So there's that. And to be fair, it's a welcome addition to April's fairly lackluster roster, so we're not about to start complaining.

The House of the Dead: Remake comes to Switch on April 7, 2022.

So, what's your take? Will you be playing any of the above five games over April? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
