5 Best Features in Grand Theft Auto Online (2022)

Updated on

Grand Theft Auto Online may very well be pushing the ten-year anniversary milestone, but that hasn't stopped it from pulling in new players from all over the globe. Even as we speak, the role-playing counterpart houses a fair few million users every single month—and that's just from Steam records alone. Now, take into account all the console companions that log in to develop their crime rings every day, and you've got yourself quite an extensive underworld.

Of course, there are plenty of reasons why the game employs so many players, though it mainly boils down to Rockstar's ability to cater to its every nook and cranny on cue. It's the poster child for Rockstar, now and forever. The question is, which features are holding up the platform in 2022, and which are worth checking out from a newcomers' perspective? Well, here's how we see Grand Theft Auto Online right now.

5. Career Builder

For those who have been on the Online monopoly since its 2013 debut, having a cash waterfall tucked in your back pocket doesn't seem like that much of a big deal. For newcomers, though, it can seem like a distant goal that's practically unreachable, given the amount of pro players that hog the lion's share of the take. Knowing that, Rockstar made the call to offer players a Career Builder, a feature that lets you start from scratch and get your foot on the ladder at the same time.

With Career Builder, newbies can receive $4,000,000 as a welcome gift. This gives the recipient the chance to splurge on a starter business property, vehicle, and even a set amount of weapons. And so, rather than feeling like a small fish in a really big pond, users can fatten up and take on the big city veterans a lot sooner than later. A small helping hand, you could say, for those who want to fast-forward through the opening hours without having to work for each and every cent.

4. Hao's Special Works

New to the Expanded & Enhanced Edition comes Hao's Special Works, an elite auto shop with a number of fresh and powerful performance upgrades. First brought to life in the LS Car Meet and Tuners DLC, Hao became a fan favourite, which later persuaded Rockstar to open up a whole new business for the citizens of San Andreas. Long story short, Hao's Special Works was born, and so came a number of upgrades and features for fellow car enthusiasts to take advantage of.

Dig out Hao's Special Works in the LS Car Meet and you'll have the chance to purchase a number of performance upgrades, modifications, and test drives. You'll even be able to enrol in a number of races, time trials, and special events. So, quite the worthy addition, especially for those who live and breathe neon and carbon.

3. Graphic Modes

It might seem like a novelty aspect for those who have already grown accustomed to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but for those who have yet to witness the flashy details on a newer system, Grand Theft Auto Online's changeable graphics modes are a real treat. And while it won't give you any additional tasks to do as such, it will boost a number of things, and not just your eye for detail, either.

Owners of the Expanded & Enhanced Edition can alter the graphics to one of three modes: Fidelity, Performance, and Performance RT. The Fidelity mode allows you to play in 4K at 30 FPS, giving you a sharper image with a slightly lower frame count. The Performance mode ups the ante by giving you an upscaled 4K at 60 FPS. And the Performance RT mode gives you an upscaled 4K resolution at 60 FPS, with ray tracing also enabled. Decisions, decisions.

2. The Contract

An update that fleshed out Los Santos by a considerable amount was 2021's The Contract, a DLC pack that reintroduced the great Franklin Clinton to the fold as an agency boss of sorts. A year later, and the thread of missions, perks, and general updates are still alive and kicking, and newcomers are head over heels in love with its progression and rewards schemes.

After purchasing an Agency, players can visit the building to initiate a brand new campaign, one that sees Franklin introducing you to a number of contracts. And then, on top of the usual spiel, there are new clothes, weapons, and general upgrades for owners to shovel through to keep the clock ticking over. You know, the usual bits and pieces you'd find in an expansion pack—only better, and a whole lot bulkier.

1. The Doomsday Heist

We won't beat around the bush and pretend that heists are, you know, meh. Instead, we'll happily sing their praises, as they are, in all honesty, the main reason we continue to pour hours into Grand Theft Auto Online day in, day out. That said, nothing has absorbed more hours than The Doomsday Heist, a full-length campaign that dares to go far beyond the boundaries of what's expected of an open-world video game.

Over a meaty tale that'll take its team anywhere from eight to ten hours, players will embark on an epic journey through a series of mind-boggling events. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll definitely wind up a few million dollars richer, so long as you're able to buckle up the nerves and pull it off in a timely fashion. Get it done, and you'll more than likely find yourself booting it back up in a matter of minutes, if only to relive the highlights.
