5 Best Easter Eggs in Saints Row (2022)

Saints Row, being the unruly and undeniably tongue-in-cheek series that it is, employs more Easter eggs than Rise of the Guardians' boomerang-wielding bunny. Makes sense, though, as it basically parodies the vast majority of action-adventure games like it's going out of fashion. And the latest instalment, as we predicted long before its release, contains just as many secrets and witty footnotes for players to unlock or unearth.

Santa Ileso, a city which is loosely based on Las Vegas, houses quite a rich selection of Easter eggs, some of which can be hard to find just by kicking up a few stones and mindlessly destroying inanimate objects. Nevertheless, we've compiled a list of some of the best-kept secrets the game has served us in its short time on the market. With that, you should check back again soon, as there'll be plenty more left to share just as soon as Santa Ileso has all of its nooks and crannies brushed over with a fine-tooth comb.

5. Doctor Who's TARDIS

Anyone who's familiar with Doctor Who will know of the time travelling phonebooth known as the Time And Relatives Dimensions in Space, commonly referred to as TARDIS. Turns out, the iconic booth exists in the Old Town West quarter of Santa Ileso, and players can discover it by searching for the green flashing lights that flicker from a distance.

If you happen to stumble upon the world famous blue and white phonebooth out in Santa Ileso, then you'll more than likely notice its radioactive glow, which, going by the show's history, means it's being used to warp through time and space. Although you won't be able to join the prominent doctor on their ventures, you will have the opportunity to snap a few shots and claim bragging rights for unearthing it.

4. Saints of Rage

There's nothing we love more than seeing a reboot giving a gentle nod to its founding fathers, whether it being through a piece of dialogue, a certain landmark, or an arcade machine that's bruised and battered in the corners of rundown arcade. Saints Row, of course, opted to follow the third route, using its classic Saints of Rage mini-game as a homage to Saints Row IV.

Saints of Rage was a playable arcade mini-game that featured Johnny Gat and Asura as a tag team couple. The game, which ended up becoming one of the highlights of Saints Row IV, had the player patrolling the streets as none other than Gat himself, mostly cracking skulls and taking names. You know, the Gat thing. As a way to pay respects to the retro cabinet, Volition decided to include it in Santa Ileso's Twin Coyote Arcade. Unfortunately, though, it remains unplayable, and only really serves as a tongue-in-cheek accessory for OG fans to gawp over.

3. Crashed UFO

UFOs are perhaps one of the most used Easter eggs in gaming, particularly in enormous open world games like, say, Grand Theft AutoAnd what better way for Saints Row to keep its distance from Rockstar's universe than to, you know, include a few UFOs? If anything, it seems more like a snide gesture towards Grand Theft Auto than an original idea. Still, a UFO is a UFO, and Santa Ileso has them by the truckload.

Seeing as the watered down Las Vegas lets you explore countless miles of dusty dunes and mysterious coves, it doesn't seem that unusual that you'd come across a UFO of two on your travels. But if you're really interested in going out of your way to find one, then the best place to start would be in Rojas Desert South, a place in which you'll find not one, but two UFOs locked in a crystallized position.

2. Pennywise Balloon

It's funny, knowing that a single red balloon can immediately bring back countless memories of one particular movie. And honestly, there's nothing more recognizable in the world of horror than Pennywise and the iconic red balloon. For that, it seems only right that Volition would pay its respects to King's franchise by throwing one into the sewers of a random Santa Ileso district.

If you're happy to go out of your way to find the iconic prop, then start by heading over to the Kavanagh County region. From there, head towards the tiny island that's located within Lake Sabastian. On the eastern side of the island, you'll find the red balloon floating between the bars of an old sewer exit. And no, you won't be eaten alive by Pennywise after finding it.

1. Keyblade

There's plucking out a few UFOs from San Andreas and having them serve as Easter eggs, and then there's stealing Kingdom Hearts' keyblade outright and making it into a fully functioning weapon for the Saints. Still, there's no denying the fact that this is a pretty awesome cosmetic — even if it does blatantly rip off Square Enix's universally celebrated series.

Unfortunately, this particular blade is only a skin for the pickaxe weapon. What this means is that, unlike the actual keyblade, you won't be able to cast spells and banish Heartless with it. Still, it's worth going out of your way to unlock, especially if you're a die-hard fan of the Kingdom Hearts saga and its treasure trove of keyblades.
