5 Amazon Originals That Would Make Perfect Video Games (2022)

It’s commonplace to see TV show adaptations of some of the most popular video games of all time. What’s less common, though, is a film that cultivates such intense love in fans that the producers decide to turn it into a video game! But wouldn't it be cool, though? Enjoying your favorite Amazon Originals show on Amazon Prime, then later transitioning to a hands-on video game – playing the same characters, navigating the same open-world concept, and experiencing an ever-so-surreal aesthetic – so much so, that it feels like you’re a part of a never-ending adventure?

Video games have a way of reeling you into their world; an adaptation of your favorite show only makes it that much more exciting! We’ve compiled five Amazon Originals that would make perfect video games (2022), so sit back and enjoy the idea of these great shows translating into on-point video games we can’t wait to play! Let’s get started.

5. Outer Range

Starting off our list of Amazon Originals that would make good video games in 2022 is Outer Range. Fans of Yellowstone, the popular neo-Western Amazon Prime TV show, will love Outer Range. Most of all, fans of the sci-fi version of Yellowstone will have a blast watching Outer Range. With a recipe for Western culture, mystery-solving, and an intense storyline, Outer Range will make a pretty great action-adventure RPG to enjoy.

Royal Abbott, a Wyoming head rancher, plays the lead, as he navigates the struggles facing his family. A family member goes missing. Another rival family wants to buy him out of his land. But the spotlight of the storyline is, doubtlessly, the mysterious black hole that sprouts up in the middle of his land. From here onwards, the show is littered with all kinds of weirdness, enough to keep you engaged in just how much strangeness a modern-day Western show has the potential for.  If the critical acclaim of Outer Range is anything to go by, a video game adaptation might just be the best filler past-time we all need.

4. Upload

Upload - Official Trailer I Prime Video

Video games offer escapism into worlds we can only dream of, and Upload is exactly the kind of space you could have a blast exploring. The Upload, an Amazon Original film, tells the story of the afterlife. We’re all curious about it, at one point, trying to figure out what happens when we die? Well, according to Upload, sci-fi technology is so advanced that people can upload their consciousness into a virtual afterlife.

When humans are close to dying, their consciousness is ‘uploaded’ into a luxury digital world called the afterlife. Here, you don’t age. Your experiences are customized to your taste. You also have access to a customer service representative at your beck and call. There are a ton of ads and in-app purchases similar to the annoying ads we experience while gaming. Hopefully, these don’t crossover into video game adaptations, or at least, are kept at a minimum. Otherwise, everything else is a recipe for an exceptional immersive experience we can only experience for ourselves through gaming.

3. Reacher

REACHER - Official Trailer | Prime Video

When Reacher hit the screens, fans were in love. Perhaps because the film was adapted from the popular Jack Reacher Lee Child novels, Jack Reacher is a massively built guy who served as a military police officer. He’s retired and currently moves from place to place, solving mysteries along the way. This time, he gets off the bus in a small town where he’s caught up in an evolving crime syndicate.

Reacher would make a great action RPG video game. Players will enjoy the uncanny monologues and detective work he does. More so, his competitive physical edge against anyone who stands in his way. While the storyline could use some more depth, the lead character is enticing enough to warrant a detective and action video game. Soon, please? There’s already a Jack Reacher promotional video game for the Tom Cruise, Jack Reacher, version, as well as a ton of video games featuring Jack Reacher’s avatar, so an Amazon Original video game will certainly be a step in the right direction.

2. The Wilds

The Wilds - Official Trailer | Prime Video

If you’ve played The Last of Us, you may have a blast playing The Wilds video game. It’s great when video games challenge your survival instincts and creativity in a survival horror game. So, adapting The Wilds into a video game may just work out pretty well!

The series follows a group of teenagers who wind up stranded on a deserted island. They are an assortment of teens, as random as the personalities you might find on a plane on the way to a spiritual retreat. The first instinct might be to work together to survive. However, resources could run out. Tensions will rise. Some may split up from the group. Others may want to control the decision-making processes. What’s clear, though, is that there’s a ton of potential for adapting The Wilds into a video game. There are plenty of mysteries to uncover, like whether the plane crashed by accident, or was it all a setup? Which players will survive the ordeal? We just can’t wait to find out in a video game!

1. The Boys

The Boys - Final Trailer | Prime Video

At the top of our list of five Amazon Originals that would make perfect video games (2022) is The Boys. Yes, you guessed it, superhero fun is just too hard to resist in video games. But hey, do you ever feel tired of always playing the “good guy?” You’re a superhero, so it’s always”‘do good, save the world,’ day in, day out.

In The Boys, superheroes aren’t what you expect. They are far from it, actually, and might just as well be called supervillains. It’s common to wonder about a world with super powers. Would every one of these guys use their power for good? Of course not. And The Boys paint that picture pretty well. So, if you’re looking to try out something different from popular Marvel and DC superhero video games, The Boys would certainly make a great alternative if a video game was released.
