The Last of Us Official Teaser Trailer – First Footage and Details

Updated on
Teaser Trailer

We've finally gotten the first official teaser trailer for HBO's live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. The TV show was first announced more than two years ago, and the production studio has done an excellent job of keeping details under wraps. With the exception of a brief snippet from a month ago, we have had little footage of the show until now. However, we now have a teaser trailer, which indicates that the show's release is slowly but surely approaching.

It's also not ironic that HBO chose today, of all days, to release the teaser trailer. Today, September 26, is unofficially dubbed as “The Last of Us Day”, which is more or less meant to celebrate everything pertaining to The Last of Us game. And HBO is right on cue with the teaser trailer to get fans excited. It would have been even better if we had received an official release date, as we are still waiting for a month and day to accompany its 2023 release. Nonetheless, the teaser trailer is more than enough to get fans excited for the day and furthermore, for the show.

Details in The Last of Us Teaser Trailer

Because this is the first official look at the show's depiction of the game, fans are undoubtedly looking to draw comparisons. And the trailer did an excellent job of teasing many aspects of Naughty Dog's award-winning title. Right off the bat, we can see people painting over a Firefly symbol in one of the quarantined zones. We then cut to Joel, and after a quote, written in blood which says “When you're lost in the darkness,”.

This is a nod to the game's fireflies quote, “Remember, when you're lost in the darkness… Look for the light. Believe in Fireflies!”.  We can also see a glimpse of the carousel, which is exclusive to the Left Behind DLC. So it's safe to assume that Ellie and Rileys' backstory will also be featured in the show. Last but not least, the song in the trailer is from the ambush scene in the first game, when you first enter the town.

We even see a Clicker reveal as the final shot, which looks just as terrifying as its video game counterpart. Overall, the trailer is riddled with innuendos about the game, and the show should be full of them as well.
