11 Bit Studios Unveil Frostpunk 2 With New Trailer

Frostpunk

Say, do you remember that teaser 11 Bit Studios put out in June? You know, that 43-second spindle of snow, blood and oil with very little context to back it? Well, the guys behind it have finally pinned a name on it. And yes, it is Frostpunk 2. Of course, it's Frostpunk 2.

Taking place thirty years after the events of the first chapter, Frostpunk 2 will once again put players in the shoes of a desperate governor, bound to the harsh conditions with an army to motivate and an economy to keep afloat. With the same difficulty spike that flowed with the original, players can once again expect to face oceans of frosty curveballs and uphill battles. But, going by the first, the reward will more than likely be well worth the commitment to the ice. If you can survive the snow that long, of course.

“What we aim to deliver to players is an experience that goes vastly beyond that of the original Frostpunk,” said Jakub Stokalski, co-Director on Frostpunk 2. “With a still-growing team of nearly 70 people, we have more manpower available to focus on all aspects of the game from the scale, the production value, and the quality of UX, but our ambition is to do more than a straight-up sequel.”

Stokalski continued…

“What players should expect is a wide universe of choices, the freedom to shape the society and the city however they see fit – and reap the consequences. Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor – survival vs human values, life vs the arctic frost. But most importantly, it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, society or technological progress – the conflict between humans and their nature”.

Although no release date has been set in stone yet, it is a slight comfort to know that 11 Bit Studios are knuckling down on the well-deserved sequel. All we can do in the meantime is hang fire for any further updates that may roll out before year's end. Whatever happens, we're seriously hoping Frostpunk 2 will be breezing our way over the next year or two. And, if we had to put our money on a launch platform, then we'd say an Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC launch is pretty much expected at this point, given the rough release window. But we'll just have to see what 11 Bit turf up over the coming months.
